Chemo Plan

Posted by on May 26, 2011

Alright folks, we have a chemo plan. Starting the week of June 20th I’ll start a total of 16 cycles of chemo (or as my friend Andrea B. calls it – super powers!). For those of you that have any understanding of chemo drugs…here’s my cocktail of super powers:
* 4 cycles of Adriamycin and Cytoxan (every other week, so that will take 2 months total to get through the 4 cycles)
* 12 cycles of Taxol (every week)

So hopefully I’ll be all done with chemo by Christmas. The Adriamycin & Cytoxan are pretty rough drugs, so the first 2 months are going to be the toughest. Radiation is still up in the air. I’m in a very “grey” area where radiation is concerned, so the Radiology Oncologist will actually make that determination. Either way I probably wouldn’t start radiation until next year, so we have some time to figure that out (although I’m still hoping my surgeon was correct and it won’t be needed!).

My oncologist said the most important thing I can do once I start chemo is let people help. Help with meals, help with chores, help with Desmond, etc. So know that you all are really making a difference is my healing. It’s like I have hundreds of people lined up behind me kicking this cancer’s ass (and any future cancer that dares to even think about rearing it’s head).

As the countdown to June 20th draws near, I’ll be resting and healing and gearing up for the next battle. I’ve started with a fantastic physical therapy program that will keep me active and primed for the fight ahead. And of course I’m enjoying all the treats I’m receiving from you all (cards from Lori and Kimberly, flowers from Michelle & Sean, dinner from Cactus tonight courtesy of Susan F, groceries delivered tomorrow from Shipe!). Sending you ALL huge hugs and kisses….
